fancy meeting you here
Welcome to WHAT TO DRINK. We are built on the philosophy that wine is one of life’s great joys and is meant to be shared. At its core, it is a byproduct of farming and fermentation, but out of the bottle it becomes a kaleidoscope of flavors and aromatics. Wine transcends nature the way other alcoholic beverages don't. It takes you places, and takes you back to places. It’s also obnoxiously complicated and can be overwhelming. The variety is seemingly endless, and new trends are always rolling in and out. What to drink is the bottomless question. We fill that void.
WHAT TO DRINK is a concise, matter-of-fact online wine shop and wine club. We sort through boatloads of wine to bring you the very best of what we’ve been drinking. All of our selections are small production with, at the very least, mindful and sustainable farming and wine making. All of our selections are ragingly delicious. And if you ever have questions or need help with wine or life, etc, shoot us a note. We are here for you always.
We, also, strongly believe in the power of giving back to our community. Every month, WTD donates $1 for every bottle sold to a different charitable organization. So far, we’ve collected and sent donations to NO US WITHOUT YOU, NCLR, AAPI Women Lead, CALMA and more. If you know of or work for a nonprofit you are passionate about, please reach out to us; we’re always looking to expand our outreach.
Who We Are
We are Joe and Celia Catalino, and we live in the Bay Area. WHAT TO DRINK is our Brainchild, born out of the ideology that wine doesn’t have to be confusing or conversely, overly geeky. It’s our response to our 20ish years of experience in the food and wine industry. Joe was raised in his family’s pizzeria and went on to work as a Sommelier at Gordon Ramsay in West Hollywood, Michael Mina’s Burgundy-focused RN74, and The Slanted Door. Celia ran kitchens in Los Angeles before starting her own catering company, and eventually returning to her art school photography roots. We cook, we drink, we raise our kiddo and doggo, we hang out and travel when not quarantined. We (mostly) take it all in stride.
Joe picks all the wines. Celia takes all the pictures. We both drink all the wines.
